About My Clients
As a family therapist, I am passionate about working with families and the problems that keep them from their ideal relationships. My work is generally with youth, their siblings, and caregivers. When any person in a family is struggling, it impacts everyone. If trauma has impacted a family, the strength of connection is often stretched thin. It is my hope to connect, or re-connect, youth and families to their resilience, values, and love.
My Background and Approach
My training and experience has centered around youth, families, cultural sensitivity, and trauma. I work with families, as a whole or in parts, to move closer to the vision they have for themselves. I came into the field to work with youth and realized that change can only be lasting if a family is on board. As a narrative therapist, I believe that people are not problems. I believe that through intentional skill building and reflection we can create stories of ourselves and our families that are woven together with our values, hopes, and knowledge. My work is also informed by feminist and queer theory, by restorative practices, and other forms of resistance. I show up in therapy with deep caring, authenticity, and active allyship. I center your story in our work together and will seek consent before sharing my own reflections and stories or sharing resources.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In any moment, we are all doing the best we can with what we have. It is our work to collaborate in transforming and shifting what we have so that we can do "the better" we are looking for. As a parent, and having spent years working with multi-stressed caregivers, I can say that parenting is incredibly hard and a test of our strengths. I also believe that it can be a source of incredible joy. As a member of the queer community, I hold that family is something that we define for ourselves and I do not hold a limiting definition in my work.
