About My Clients
I love helping people look at old patterns of coping and interacting in the world, and seeing how those patterns influence their daily life. I work well with people who want to go under the surface of what's going on and look at what may be lurking underneath. This can understandably bring up some feelings of apprehension, and we will always go at a pace that feels right and safe for you. You're in the driver's seat, and I'm helping to navigate.
My Background and Approach
My approach is client-centered, warm, and trauma-informed. I trust you to be the expert on your life and I help you walk the path that feels right for you. I tend to be on the feeling side of the spectrum, and love helping people uncover and experience their own emotions. I've been told that my presence is grounding, nurturing, and friendly. I enjoy helping people to explore vulnerability and become more open with people in their lives. I'm also a big fan of working with therapists as clients, and supporting other therapists to grow their practices. I've been in private practice since 2014, beginning in Portland and then transferring across the bridge to Vancouver. Before opening my practice I worked in community mental health, walking alongside people needing high levels of support. My MA is from Lewis & Clark College and my BA is from Portland State University - I loved the combination of these two schools to get a well-rounded perspective on psychology & social issues.
My Values as a Therapist
We as therapists don't have all the answers. You're the one driving the car down the path we navigate together, and I'm helping read the map (if only there was a GPS for mental health!) I'm constantly reading, learning, and absorbing to learn more about the world, my place in it, and how to better support the people I work with. I have the most training and experience in supporting the LGBTQ+ community and am building knowledge around racial justice topics. Black Lives Matter. I'm an intersectional feminist and can help even if you're not exactly sure what that means (I'd love to explain!). I also enjoy working with veterans and volunteer with the Returning Veterans Project. I'm a mom of two young children, and if you're a parent reading this - you're doing an amazing job. I see you, and know how hard it is. Everyone is doing the best they can with the information they have. Processing our traumas and building community help us to do better for ourselves & each other.
