About My Clients
I find that any time you get to know someone intimately, it is impossible not to care about them and respect them. My clients are diverse, and often struggle with relationships, identity, and finding a place for themselves in this world.
My Background and Approach
Dr. Goodman believes that the way we change is in relation to one another, and that a connected therapeutic relationship is necessary. She pulls from many theories in her practice, including feminist, multicultural, psychodynamic, client-centered, and DBT. Clients describe her as open, active, and occassionally snarky. Dr. Goodman received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas, as well as her Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Dr. Goodman's research focused on sex and sexuality, and she brings this expertise to her clinical work, as well. Dr. Goodman completed extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and received broad training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and psychodynamic approaches. She completed her APA-approved internship at the Northport Veteran's Administration Hospital and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Boston VA, specializing in working with recently returned veterans with histories of trauma and substance abuse.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As the granddaughter of holocaust survivors, I truly feel that it is my duty to stand up against injustice whereever I can. Truly, if someone is enslaved, then none of us are free. Black Lives Matter. Trans Lives Matter. Living in a patriarchal, racist, capitalist society is bad for our mental health, and affects all of us in ways we might not even be aware of. Taking care of yourself can be radical act and an important challenge to the systems of oppression.
